Len lauro and Caroline Lorre started Year
Of The Wild Cat in NY in 1992. It was then called Problem
and had a habit of playing somewhat rawcuss, aggressive
punk which got Problem banned from the likes of CBGB's as
well as most other NY clubs in the early 90's. Moving the
band to California's Bay Area where original and non-run-of-the-mill
music and certainly rock is preffered was a good thing for
the band. With the help of area musicians like Mike Padilla
of Soundport Recording Studios and Adam Briggs from The
Teenage Harlets, Len and Caroline retooled and redifined
the band; changing its name to Year Of The Wild Cat in 2002
and embarking on their recording of 'TONITE'- a sweet collection
of 11 songs with a heavy emphasis on vocals and vocal harmony
- that, together with a focus on a production style that
to date, best expresses the band's asthetics, reflects their
colective experiences over the last 12 years. The vox are
big. The playing is on, foward, and skilled. Len's freelancing
in the 70's with as many as 25 different acts and his classical
training definately lend a polished tone to this CD in direct
contrast to the CD 'Cat Dancer' released in 1998 under the
band name PROBLEM which more represents the band's former
raw style. Year Of The Wild Cat is lucky to have the use
of a number of talented but very busy players and as such,
gigs only when the right crew is available. We have no idea
what to do with it but I will tell you this - Year Of The
Wild Cat's performance is the best we can make it given
our age, experience, and attitude and therefore, is not
to be missed. Shows appear on our myspace page as they become
available.
